UPS Back On Track After Back-To-Back Snow Storms
Some people had to wait until Dec. 27 for some Christmas presents. Last week’s back-to-back snow storms caused some shipping and delivery delays for UPS. More than 50,000 packages in Colorado Springs were held up. Hundreds lined up outside of UPS stores trying to get their packages on Saturday before Christmas. Some of them had to wait until Tuesday for some late gift giving.
“I’m picking up a package that was supposed to be delivered back about three days before Christmas,” said Patrice Delaurell, who lined up at the UPS on Emory Circle minutes before it opened. Delaurell called UPS last week looking for her package, which contained winter jackets for her two daughters.
“They (UPS) said that I could pick it up the day before Christmas,” said Delaurell. “So I came down the day before Christmas (Saturday). There was like a four hour wait. I said ‘forget that,’so I’m back here today to finally pick it up.”
Maryam Hachouche said she was also discouraged by the long lines on Dec. 24.
“There was a ton of people here,” said Hachouche.
UPS actually attempted to deliver Hachouche’s package before Christmas, but couldn’t leave it at her door because a signature was required.
Delaurell said that once inside the UPS store, the employees were extremely courteous and explained that the delay was due to weather.
“I’m just glad to have it,” said Delaurell as she looked at her large brown Lands End box. Her daughters were looking forward to one more gift.
“They’ve waited long enough,” said Delaurell.
A UPS spokesperson confirmed that weather did cause some delivery delays. She said that picking up packages at local UPS facilities was not the best course of action, since packages were already on trucks, ready to be delivered.
