Woman Hit With Hammer By Tenant

A woman was attacked with a hammer Sunday evening, according to Pueblo police. Officers say one of her tenants was behind the attack.

It happened on Christmas evening at the 1200 block of Wyoming Avenue.

Police said, Albert Hayes, 50, struck her on the head with a hammer.

Hayes is being charged with attempted first-degree murder. The victim is a 65-year-old woman. Police have not released her name.

Investigators said they victim rents parts of her house to two different people. ?It is a landlord tenant dispute,” said Detective Andrew McLachlan of the Pueblo Police department, “She rents a portion of her house to Mr. Hayes and apparently there was some sort of dispute and he struck her with a hammer.?

Police are still investigating what the fight was about.

?She is at a local hospital in serious condition. Last I heard, with a depressed skull fracture,? said McLachlan.

McLachlan said since the case is still being investigated, there is a chance Hayes could face additional charges.

Hayes is in the Pueblo County Jail with no bond.
