Crews Rescue Pregnant Mare Stuck In Hole

Crews teamed up to rescue a 4-year-old pregnant mare from a 7-foot hole in the 61000 block of Huckleberry Road in the eastern portion of Pueblo County.

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Pueblo Rural Fire Department, Pueblo County Road and Bridge, and Pueblo Animal Control responded to the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

The crews were able to pull the mare out of the hole. Veterinarians from Mesa Animal Hospital took the foal’s vital signs after the resuce. They say the reports were positive and the mare is home and doing well. Her owners are keeping a close eye on her for signs of an early labor due to stress.
