Apartment Fire Forces Evacuations

14 families were forced out of their apartments Tuesday night after a fire at the Fillmore Ridge Apartments near Chestnut and Fillmore.

Colorado Springs Fire tells KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 the fire started in the unit of one apartment after maintenance crews began soldering water pipes.

Crews had to tear down one wall to get to the fire. Crews were able to quickly put the fire out.

Chestnut Street was shut down for a brief period, but reopened a short time later.

CSFD says all families evacuated were able to go back home after firefighters made sure there were no hot spots.
