Man Arrested In West Colorado Springs Shooting

A Colorado Springs man is in jail, accused of firing a gun and threatening a house with 10 people inside. No one was hurt.

One of the witnesses was Briaanna Perry. She and her boyfriend were visiting a family of two adults and six children at 1208 W. Colorado Ave. when gunfire erupted.

“I was inside the house with the children, trying to keep them calm,” said Perry. “I looked out the window and just saw his head, but that was it. The mom and dad ran inside, and then I got the kids in the back bedroom, and then we heard some more gunshots, and then I took the kids and left.”

Police said they arrested Rodrick Vigil, 33, on suspicion of attempted murder, and that it’s unclear whether he fired at the house or at someone inside. The motive for the shooting and the relationship between Vigil and the family are unclear. However, Perry said Vigil and the parents had been arguing on phone and over the Internet earlier Tuesday.

Officers said the shooting happened at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, and that they caught Vigil as he tried to flee on foot.

Several neighbors reported hearing gunfire, and one neighbor said he saw a car drive past the house before the shooting and heard a heated verbal exchange. Neighbors also said the house has been a concern in the neighborhood, with plenty of noise, activity and parties.
