Springs Police Arrest Car Thief Suspect
Colorado Springs police arrested a car thief suspect on Sunday after they said he got into a crash and then took off on foot.
Officers said Matthew Nyquest crashed near Constitution and Union on Saturday morning. He then took off with a stolen GPS device in his backpack, according to police.
Police said the car was stolen from the valet parking lot at Memorial Hospital. Officers said they discovered that the GPS unit was taken from a second vehicle in the valet area.
Hospital workers said they are surprised that Nyquest was able to steal the GPS device and car because there are security guards on patrol at all times.
They said there is also heavy traffic near the valet drop-off area where the keys were stolen from.
Nyquest faces several charges including motor vehicle theft, criminal trespass and hit-and-run.
Police said they think Nyquest may have been under the influence of drugs during his crime spree.
