Dougherty Gang In Court In Huerfano County

The three members of the so-called Dougherty Gang appeared in court in Huerfano County Friday morning and were advised they are facing more charges.

The three were captured on Wednesday in Walsenburg.

Grace Lee Dougherty is facing a charge of first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer. Documents indicate she drew a gun with the intent to fire at Walsenburg Police Chief James Chamberlain. Chamberlain then fired at her, shooting her in the leg, court documents stated.

She also faces a charge of attempted assault on a peace officer with a firearm for firing from her car while being chased by officers on Interstate 25. According to court documents the officer who prepared the affidavit, “…does believe that the suspect’s intent was to cause serious bodily injury to all of the officers involved in the pursuit by means of a deadly weapon….”

Dylan Stanley-Dougherty is facing a charge of attempted murder in the first degree for shooting at officers who were pursuing the car he was in, according to Huearfano County court documents. The charge is based on statements made by Grace Lee Dougherty to investigators after she waived her miranda rights, according to court documents.

Ryan Dougherty also faces a charge of first-degree assault on a peace officer, according to documents.

NewsChannel 13 Special note: NewsChannel 13 is pronouncing the last name Dougherty as Dock-er-tee. This is how the family pronounces the the name. We recognize this is not the way the name is normally pronounced based on how it is spelled. However, since it is how the family pronounces the name that is how we are also pronouncing it. The Associated Press also agrees with this pronunciation. See this AP story below on charges pending in Florida:

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say charges are pending against three Florida siblings for allegedly shooting at a pursuing police officer north of Tampa. That incident triggered a national manhunt culminating in the arrest of the trio in Colorado this week. Twenty-nine-year-old Lee Grace Dougherty (DOCK-er-tee), 26-year-old Dylan Dougherty Stanley and 21-year-old Ryan Edward Dougherty were being held in Pueblo County, Colo., Friday while authorities sort what new charges they will face. Police in Zephyrhills say shots were fired from the Dougherty’s car during a high-speed chase Aug. 2. Warrants were issued last week charging Ryan Dougherty, a convicted sex offender, with failing to verify his address and stealing a car from his girlfriend.
