Colo. Trooper Suspected Of Drinking And Driving On The Job

By: Johnray Stricklandj.strickland@krdo.comCASTLE ROCK, Colo.- Douglas County deputies took a Colorado State Patrol Trooper into custody for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol Monday morning.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper David Dolan, 48, was taken to the Douglas County Detentions Facility and is in the process of being booked in on charges of DUI, DUI Per Se, and Prohibited Use of Weapons, according toSheriff’s spokeswoman Cocha Heyden.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls from citizens reporting that a marked Colorado State Patrol vehicle was driving erratically on northbound I-25, before the Castle Rock area just before 7:00 a.m. ADouglas County Deputy spotted the cruiser on westbound C470 at Santa Fe and was able to pull the vehicle over at Platte Canyon and C470.The driver,David Dolan, was taken into custody for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol.

“I am very concerned and disturbed regarding the events of this morning,” said Colonel James Wolfinbarger, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.”The Colorado State Patrol takes any violation of law and/or policy seriously and we will move quickly and thoroughly through this administrative investigation. While any violation of law is serious, this alleged act is very concerning given the nature of the mission of the Colorado State Patrol. We have a 75 year history of combating impaired and drunken driving and are deeply committed to eradicating this senseless crime on our roads.”

Colorado State Trooper David Dolan was hired January 22, 1989 and is a 21 year veteran of the patrol assigned to our Selections Unit out of Colorado Springs.

Trooper Dolan will be placed on unpaid administrative leave as the investigation continues.
