Health Care Bill Passes
WASHINGTON (AP) – The Democratic-controlled House has passed historic health care legislation to provide medical coverage to millions more Americans.
The bill passed by a vote of 220 to 215, with all Republicans and 39 Democrats voting against the proposed legislation. Democrats, who hold 258 seat, had needed 218 votes to pass the bill.
Most Americans would be required to carry insurance and large employers would have to cover their employees.
The plan includes an amendment that would also prohibit coverage of abortions in the government run health insurance plan. TheUS Senate still has to vote on the bill, that could come next year.
