Sunday Morning Road Conditions

COLORADO SPRINGS – Drivers and pedestriansdealt with more icy streets and sidewalks Sunday morning, along with colder temperatures. However, conditionsimproved in the afternoon.

Driving was treacherous through the city, especially on side streets, hills and parking lots. But there were far fewer accidents than on Saturday morning, when police estimated at least 100 accidents. Alan Peterson, a supervisor with the city Street Division, says 30 trucks were on duty sanding and salting major streets. Although neighborhood streets may be slicker, Peterson advises residents not to expect trucks Sunday, as major streets remain the priority. He adds that some trucks had difficulty driving up hills to reload.

Meanwhile, conditions were much better in surrounding El Paso County, according to supervisor Pete Cozzolino. 15 trucks which had been on duty all day Saturday were called back at 4:30 a.m. Sunday. Cozzolino says all major roads and intersections have been addressed.

Several churches canceled either some or all of their Sunday morning service. Fellowship of the Rockies canceled its early service but went ahead with the later service. It was only the second time in ten years the church canceled a service.
