Salida Teen Dies In Fatal Crash

-Salida

Salida High School made grief counselors available to students Wednesday, after one of their students dies in a car wreck south of Poncha Springs.

State Troopers have released more details on the fatal crash, which happened early Tuesday morning.

17-year-old Sheree Miller of Salida was a passenger in a Mazda Protg being driven by another Salida High student.

While traveling along a section of highway 285 known as Poncha Pass, the car lost control, and slid into the path of an oncoming Ford pick-up truck.

Miller died at the scene. The 17-year-old driver was taken to a Salida hospital before being airlifted to Denver. His name and condition have not been released. The 45 Year-Old driver of the pick-up was not injured.

State Troopers at the scene say high speed on the part of the teen appears to have been a factor, but no word yet on whether he will face charges.
