Bridge on W. Rockrimmon Blvd. expected to be closed until Aug. 11

Workers have demolished a bridge needing replacement in northwest Colorado Springs.

On Friday night at around 6 p.m., a block-long bridge on West Rockrimmon Boulevard closed to begin making improvements. Workers immediately began tearing it down and continued to work through the night.

On Saturday, crews began installing a new, wider culvert to improve drainage in a creek under the bridge.

They plan over the next two weeks to have the new bridge built.

While the change is much needed, neighbors tell us the demolition is keeping them up at night.

“We could definitely hear it. It seemed to go on pretty much all through the night. It seemed to be its loudest up to about midnight, maybe a little bit after, and kind of tapered off then,” said Jim Matthews.

Officials expect to reopen the bridge enough for some traffic by August 11.
