Local firefighter memorialized after fatal crash on Hwy 24

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Joshua Landry passed on May 20 after a crash on Highway 24 just east of Peyton. Landry served as a firefighter at Seeley Lake in Montana for one year, before returning home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Landry's family memorialized and celebrated the Colorado Springs Vista Ridge graduate in an outdoor service Saturday at the Masonic Lodge. Joshua Landry's father, Bob Landry, said, "We are going to be thanking so many people for a long time. So many donated, gave of their time and love; please know that we love and appreciate it more than we could ever say."

The Colorado State Patrol reported the driver of a Hyundai Elantra tried to pass another car, but it collided head-on with an Oldsmobile SUV traveling westbound. The collision caused a Kia Rio to hit the SUV from behind -- pushing it off the road.

Joshua Landry, 20, was identified as the driver of the Hyundai. According to the State Patrol, he died at the scene and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver and three passengers in the Oldsmobile SUV were transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, while the driver and two passengers in the Kia only sustained minor injuries.

Bob Landry writes via his Facebook page that he will preserve the memory of his son: "I need to be sure my son’s legacy continues; that his impact will reach far beyond the all too short and precious 20 years that he had. I will be writing a book to attempt to do just that."
