Pueblo Riverwalk lights will have extra dose of fireworks this year

Friday night, Pueblo’s Riverwalk will be lit up bright with Christmas lights all throughout the canal for the 18th Holiday Lighting Extravaganza.

Every holiday lighting along the Pueblo Riverwalk comes with a visit from Santa, caroling, and fireworks to cap it off.

But this year, Riverwalk organizers want the fireworks to pack a little more punch. Especially after the city had to cancel this year’s Fourth of July firework show.

“We are looking to redeem ourselves,” said Lynn Clark, Director is the historic Arkansas Riverwalk in Pueblo. For the 18th holiday lighting extravaganza at the Riverwalk, the city is spending double the amount of money on fireworks.

“We didn’t get to do our fireworks on July 4th, the weather wasn’t cooperating. We had some very high winds and it just wasn’t safe to have the firework show.”

So now the funds that were set aside for the July fourth show are being moved to tomorrow night.

Fireworks will be launched over Lake Elizabeth. If you are looking to find the perfect spot to see the show you’ll be able to set up right on Victoria Street. Victoria will be blocked off from D Street all the way until Grand Avenue so people can post up for the show.

For Lynn Clark, a debt needs to be paid to the people of Pueblo.

“It’s just going to be longer more spectacular,” said Clark. “We do know that we owed the community that show. It’s truly a redemption moment.”

The lighting extravaganza kicks off Friday at 5 p.m.

Not only will there be Christmas lights and fireworks, but three separate choirs are expected to come down and sing with the crowd. Clark says they are going for the largest Christmas carol ever assembled in downtown Pueblo. That will start at 5:30 p.m.

Correction: The article previously referred to Lake Elizabeth as Lake Victoria.
