El Paso County has the most DUI arrests made in the entire state so far in 2022

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- According to data collected by Colorado State Patrol, El Paso County leads the state with the most DUI/D arrests so far this year.

According to CSP, troopers have issued 2,936 citations for impaired driving between January and July.

Data for the first six months of 2022 show Colorado State Patrol troopers arrested 342 drivers for DUI/D in El Paso County. The county with the second highest arrests was Adams County, with 252 arrests.

CSP reports driving while impaired is one of the two lead crash factors behind fatal crashes across the state.

Of the fatal crashes investigated by CSP between January and July:

  • 21.6% were caused by a driver traveling outside of their designated lane
  • 18% were caused by a driver getting behind the wheel while impaired by alcohol, marijuana, and/or other controlled substances

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, in 2019 El Paso County had the highest number of DUI case filings with 3,616.

In addition to warning drivers about the dangers of driving while impaired, CSP started a campaign to make drivers aware of lane violations.

Within the first six months of 2022, CSP has responded to more than 375 injuries and fatal crashes caused by lane violations.

CSP says it's taking a low-tolerance approach to the violations called "Stay in Your Lane" designed to remind people to control their lane positions.
