East Peak Fire 100% contained

The East Peak Fire at the base of the east Spanish Peak is 100% contained. The fire burned 13,572 acres.

All evacuations ordered because of the fire have been lifted.

Ten structures have been lost along with 4 outbuildings.

Investigators have determined the fire was started by a lightning strike.

Governor John Hickenlooper signed an Executive Order Friday (6/21) declaring a disaster emergency in Huerfano and Las Animas Counties because of the fire.

The Executive Order authorizes the transfer of $3 million from the Disaster Emergency Fund to pay for the fire suppression, response and recovery effort related to the fire since it started.
