Wildfire forces evacuations in Jefferson County

A new fire started in southern Jefferson County Wednesday afternoon, prompting the sheriff’s office to order evacuations.

The Lime Gulch Fire is burning 150 to 200 acres on US Forest Service Land in southern Jefferson County.

An emergency-notification call was sent out to 715 phones within a 3-mile radius of the intersection of Foxton Road and River Road. About 100 people evacuated as a precaution.

No homes are threatened, but if the wind shifts that could change.

An evacuation shelter has been set up at Evergreen High School, 29300 Buffalo Park Road in Evergreen.
