Fremont County Authorities On Lookout For Intruder
Residents in the Canon City area of Fremont County were warned to keep their doors and windows locked because of a suspected home invader targeting women at night who live alone.
The sheriff’s office said at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, a man entered a home in the 1700 block of Grand Avenue and confronted the woman inside. Investigators said he entered through an unlocked door and woke the woman up as she was sleeping in her bed. The woman threatened to shoot the intruder, and he fled the home without harming her, authorities said.
The woman did not get a good description of the intruder, but investigators said she told them he had a strong body odor. She declined to be interviewed, but said the man “got on her” before he fled.
Sheriff’s deputies, along with the help of Canon City police officers, cordoned off the area and used the reverse 911 system to help notify neighbors. Search dogs were sent in, but the intruder was not found.
Investigators believe the incident may be connected to another home invasion that happened a few blocks away just before midnight Monday. In that incident, deputies said a man entered a home and hit a woman before he left.
As of late Saturday night, there was no clear description of the intruder. Authorities said if anyone has information or sees a suspicious person, call 911 or deputies at 719- 784-3411.
