Classical Academy President Responds To Probe

COLORADO SPRINGS – Mark Hyatt, president of the troubled Classical Academy school in District 20, has responded to allegations against the school and an investigation by the state Department of Education.

In a statement, Hyatt says: “The Classical Academy looks forward to working with our Colorado Department of Education to address parental concerns. We’re also currently working with other community organizations to review or procedures. We strive to continually seek ways to better serve our students and parents.”

NEWSCHANNEL 13‘s Tak Landrock has been looking into allegations at the school for the past few weeks–including a possible sexual assault, and the publication of a hit list. Parents were not told not told about the alleged incidents. On Friday, the state notified NEWSCHANNEL 13 by letter of an investigation of the school. The state says the school possibly failed in six areas to protect students and parents.

Classical Academy is part of District 20, and officials there also are investigating. Reached by phone Sunday, Hyatt said he wants to consult with district officials before deciding whether to be interviewed on the situation. Stay tuned to NEWSCHANNEL 13 as we track this story for you.
