Minutes Of Horror At New Life

By Joe DominguezJ.Dominguez@krdo.com

COLORADO SPRINGS – We found a unique resource that helps give you an idea of how quickly things unfolded during the time of the shooting. It’s the minute-by-minute account of emergency responders responding to the active shooter situation at New Life Church Sunday.

The shooter Matthew Murray first described as a white man with a slender build and dressed for battle in army fatigues. The first call for help came to 9-1-1 at 1:13 pm.

In the parking lot Murray killed one young girl and fired on at least two other people who were just leaving the worship center.

At 1:15, emergency responders got an update on where Murray was.

“Last known location of the shooter is the north side by the tent area correction northeast side by the tent area.”

From there Murray moved towards the east side of the church. He also fired shots into at least two cars on his way inside. Police said Monday that reports of smoke drove many to the same door Murray entered through.

During this time police are rushing to the scene, arriving three minutes after being called according to earlier reports.

“Police Department has as many units as possible on its way to the shooter.”

Murray shot two more people before being confronted by a security guard right around 1:20.

“Command to dispatch be advised the shooter is down.”

Ambulances, which had been held back initially because of the gunfire, rushed to the scene and into the parking lot.

At 1:23, this:

“We have three critical central wounds in the parking lot, it looks like one male and two females.”

And one minute later the first innocent victim lost.

“We are now down to two viable patients, we have two called on scene.”

Church leaders said Monday that the shooter got less than 50 feet inside before being stopped.
