Judge rules former Loveland police officer can stand trial in Karen Garner arrest
LOVELAND, Colo. (KRDO) -- The former Loveland police officer, Austin Hopp who was charged with assaulting a 73-year-old women with dementia can stand trial in connection to the arrest of Karen Garner.
According to 9News, Larimer County judge confirmed the ruling Monday and cited the body cam arrest footage had enough evidence to call the case for trial.
In June 2020, Karen Garner was left with a dislocated shoulder, bruises, and a broken arm in the arrest. She allegedly shoplifted about $15 worth of items from Walmart.
Supervisors at Loveland Police Department reviewed the body cam arrest footage and decided there were no policy violations and suggested Hopp used the 'control hold' method.
