11-year-old girl on sled dies after slamming into the truck towing her

PARK COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - An 11-year-old girl died Friday after the sled she was riding on, slammed into the back of a pickup truck that was towing her.

The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single-car crash that happened around 6:00 pm Friday evening in Park County, Colorado, athat resulted in the death of a child.

According to Troopers, a man was driving a Ford F-250 pickup, on Park County Road 60, towing four children on sleds on an icy, snow-packed roadway.

when one of the children came off their sled, the driver stopped the truck, but an 11-year-old girl on a separate sled was unable to stop, and slammed into the rear of the truck, striking the undercarriage, then sliding underneath.

According to investigators, the young girl suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later. No other injuries were reported.

At this time, alcohol and drug use are not suspected to be contributing factors in the crash which remains under investigation.
