Gov. Jared Polis gives update on COVID-19 in Colorado, Nov. 13
Governor Jared Polis said Friday, Colorado has hit a new single day COVID-19 case record, with no signs of slowing.
Based on new numbers, Polis said about 1 in 110 Coloradans are contagious with the virus statewide.
At least 1,159 residents are currently in the hospital receiving life-saving treatment and about 5% of those admitted do not recover.
Ahead of Thanksgiving, Polis is recommending Coloradans begin self-quarantine now, if they plan to celebrate the holiday with people outside their immediate households.
"If you have a thanksgiving group of 10 folks...you have about a 1 in 11 chance of someone being contagious with COVID-19 in that group," Polis said.
The governor issued an executive order, requiring hospitals to submit an initial surge capacity plan by November 18th.
He also ordered Colorado's Emergency Operation Center to return to Level 1, so that state agencies can better coordinate to address the rising growth in cases.
If current trends continue to rise, Polis said there is a higher likelihood alternate care centers may need to be activated.
"I continue to hope. We all continue to hope we will not use those facilities, but we are prepared to activate them if necessary."
Of the three sites statewide the governor listed, St. Mary Corwin in Pueblo would be one of the first to mobilize between 25 - 240 additional beds if the need arrises.
