Man dies in Palmer Park while riding mountain bike

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Multiple Colorado Springs Fire Department Units responded to a low angle rescue in Palmer Park on Saturday morning in the area of Lazy Land Trailhead/Rd.

According to CSPD, rescue workers found the body of a 53-year-old man who police say died while riding his mountain bike.

Policed have not released the name of the man as of Saturday night.

KRDO spoke to the rescue crew who responded to the call Saturday morning. They say the area is extremely rocky.

"That area of the park is named little Moab," explained Caleb Reeder, a paramedic who responded. "It's got a lot of that type of rock that has a very sandy surface which is sometimes tough for footing, big drops and ledges."

Right now it's unclear what caused the man to lose control. Reeder said this is a sad reminder of how dangerous mountain biking can be.

"We encourage you to still get out and enjoy something as beautiful as Palmer Park. Also, I think it's wise to stay within the limits of your abilities. And, sometimes even when we do that, accidents happen," he said.

This is still a developing story. We will bring you updates as they become available to us.
