COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Walk For Wishes, an annual event benefiting Make-A-Wish Colorado has gone virtual this year.

On Saturday, October 10th, individuals and teams from around the state will participate in walks, runs, and hikes to celebrate many critically ill Colorado children who are waiting for a wish.

A team created by cadets at the US Air Force Academy, Wings For Wishes, is currently the top fundraiser for Walk For Wishes, having already raised nearly $5,000. This Saturday morning, the Wings For Wishes team will meet at the Santa Fe Trail for a hike in honor of wish kids across the state.

The Wings For Wishes team is comprised of 13 current Air Force Academy cadets, alumni and officers, as well as friends and colleagues.

This is the fourth year of Walk For Wishes, benefiting Make-A-Wish Colorado. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Walk has gone virtual. More than 50 teams and 400 individuals across the state have signed up for this year’s walk.

Make-A-WishColorado creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. The non-profit’s quest is to bring every eligible child's wish to life because a wish is an integral part of a child's treatment journey.

Research shows children who have wishes granted can help build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight a critical illness. Founded as one of the first Make-A-Wish chapters in 1983, Make-A-Wish Colorado has granted more than 5,700 wishes to children across the state of Colorado.
