Pueblo County officials give update as testing center opens; 2nd case confirmed
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Health officials in Pueblo County are continuing to update the community on the status of COVID-19, and a testing area has been opened at the Colorado State Fairgrounds Thursday.
An official also said Pueblo County now has two positive cases of the coronavirus as of Thursday. The second victim was reported to be a 47-year-old woman.
Watch below:
On Thursday the mobile testing site overseen by the Colorado State National Guard and Colorado Department of Health and Environment tested 100 people for COVID-19.
Health officials equipped with protective gear took oral and nasal swabs from patients as they drove through the Colorado State Fairgrounds.
Prior to Thursday's mobile test site, 46 people in Pueblo County had been tested for COVID-19. In just a few hours, the number more than doubled.
“We have certainly had testing going on (at the hospitals), but this will add another hundred," said Randy Evetts with Pueblo's Health Department. "It gives us some surveillance of our community and will help us really understand what the prevalence is in our community.”
At a press conference in front of the testing site, health officials discussed the second confirmed case of the Coronavirus in Pueblo County.
“This is a 47-year old female," said Evetts. "We are in the process of doing our contact investigation and research to understand who else this person might’ve had contact with.”
The current condition of the newly revealed patient is unclear at this time. It is also unclear if the patient recently traveled.
As for the people tested on Thursday, the best case scenario is they receive test results back within 24 hours. However, it will likely take longer.
Pueblo health officials say they are working to bring more testing to the Steel City after Thursday's mobile test site.
