Girl Scouts of Colorado prepare for 2020 cookie season

Cookie season is officially upon us and Girl Scouts will soon start to sell their cookies. This year, there's a new cookie in play. Don't worry though, the classics are still available, but you may have to rethink your order.

In 2019, 4.7 million boxes of Girl Scout cookies were sold in Colorado. For that, these scouts are extremely thankful and hope to do their part in either equaling or beating that number this year.

Abigail Tussey, a Senior Girl Scout, says she hopes to sell 350 boxes this year.

As for the cookie lineup, you have your regular go-to's in Thin Mints, Samoas, and Do-si-Dos. But this year, a brand new cookie will be making its way into your stomach.

“The new cookie is a lemon cookie called Lemon-Ups," says Audriana Tussey, Abigail's sister. "It’s crunchy with a lemon glaze on the bottom.”

Troop leader and mother of both Abigail and Audriana, Vicki Tussey, says this fundraiser is extremely important to not just her scouts but to scouts across the entire state.

“Being a new troop this year they do need to raise the money," says Vicki. "This is so they can have money for troop meetings, activities, supplies, and each girl also gets cookie credits and they can spend that on going to camp or something they might want in the Girl Scout store."

And because of Girl Scouts, she says she’s been able to see her daughters grow so much.

“We’ve gone from Daisies all the way up to Abigail who is a senior," she says. "Being a Daisy, it’s more handheld, and as they move up they learn to become more independent and the meetings are more girl-led."

Boxes range from four to five dollars. Starting Sunday, you'll be able to buy them online or from booth and door to door sales.
