El Paso County Junior Livestock Sale offers online bidding

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) — Kids and teens in El Paso County have put in months of hard work raising livestock and getting ready for the annual El Paso County Show and Junior Livestock Sale.

The organizers of the Junior Livestock Sale are making sure their hard work doesn’t go to waste.

“These kids have been raising and caring for these animals for months, they have been dealt a challenge and with everyone’s support we can have a great sale for them,” Sale Committee Manager, Patty Woodard said in a statement.

“These livestock projects teach responsibility, value of hard work, and a financial reward for their efforts, which many will use for next year’s project or to further their education after high school.”

The annual sale will look different this year because of COVID- 19. The sale organizers have decided to partner with online sale provider StockShowAuctions.com so buyers can makes bids online during the live auction, according to a press release from El Paso County.

About 100 animals will be up for bid.  The online process gives junior exhibitors the opportunity to hone their photography, videography, creative writing, digital media, sales and marketing skills according to an El Paso County spokesperson.

Businesses and individuals who want to support the exhibitors have two ways to do that.

One way is to bid and purchase an animal. They can also make “Add-Ons” in any amount.  Add-ons are donations people can make to the exhibitors.

Supporters can make an Add-On donation from Friday, July 17 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21.

The live auction for bidding and purchasing the animal will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at the El Paso County Fair and Event Center in Calhan.

Because of capacity limitations, only registered buyers seeking to purchase an animal will be allowed in the event.

People who want to bid from the comfort of their home can join the auction on StockShowAuctions.com.

For more information about how to participate, you can visit the Junior Livestock Sale webpage on the El Paso County fair website www.elpasocountyfair.com or contact Sale Manager, Patty Woodard at epcojrlivestocksalecommittee@gmail.com.
