COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It's been a long career for Hercules, one of the El Paso County Sheriff's Office's Mounted Unit horses, but he's officially retiring this week after 14 years with the county.

Herc is nearly 23, and now he's going to spend his days with Mounted Unit Lead Deputy Chris Herman.

Hercules joined the sheriff's office in 2006, which makes him the longest tenured Mounted Unit horse in EPSO history, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office says Herc is still in good spirits and health, so we hope he has many more years ahead of him in retirement.
