Motorcyclist sustains serious injuries after crash in downtown Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A motorcycle driver was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries after crashing into a parked truck on S. Nevada Avenue Sunday morning.

Around 11:08 a.m. the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a call of a traffic accident in the 400 block of S. Nevada Ave, according to the police report.

At the scene, officers learned that a motorcycle had been traveling southbound on S. Nevada when it went to the right of an SUV that was preparing to make a right turn.

The motorcycle then struck an unoccupied truck that was parked against the west curb line.

The Major Crash Team responded to assume responsibility for the investigation.

The area of southbound Nevada from Costilla to Cimarron was closed for several hours as police investigated.

The 23-year-old driver was wearing a helmet, according CSPD. Police suspect that speed was a factor in the accident.
