New Instagram boutique joins growing list of businesses opening in Downtown Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Downtown Colorado Springs continues to see a boom with a growing number of businesses and apartment complexes going up.
Selfie Bear Bear, an Instagram boutique, is one of 14 new businesses that have opened in Downtown Colorado Springs so far this year.
Selfie Bear Bear is a social media dream with more than 20 backdrops to choose from, props, and even fun facts. Owner Erin Spradlin says she wanted to give people a place they could escape from the day-to-day.
"Something indoors so that if the weather wasn’t good or you didn’t feel like a hike, I felt like an art space that kind of combines online and real-world was needed," said Spradlin.
Spradlin grew up in Colorado Springs and with an expanding downtown thought it was the perfect fit for her idea.
"I’m really excited about all the development that’s happening on Tejon. It’s great. I grew up here, so seeing all the restaurants come in and seeing like the Downtown Corridor expand especially too when you see all the apartment complexes coming in you just know that people and younger people are going to be around so I wanted to be in the heart of downtown," said Spradlin.
Last year, a record 38 businesses opened in Downtown Colorado Springs.
"We have 20 or so in the pipeline that are set to open this year, and there’s always additional prospects that are weighing if the timing and space is right. There’s a chance we could get to that 38 number this year and maybe even exceed it," said Katie Frank with the Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs.
Businesses continue to face a number of hurdles from the pandemic, but despite that Downtown Colorado Springs is seeing growth.
"The environment right now is it’s definitely almost a wait and see with some businesses and obviously we have staffing shortages and supply chain issues and inflation you do have all of those, but they’re plugging along and still on the right track," said Frank.
Selfie Bear Bear is open Thursday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m.
