Deputy finds more than 300 suspected fentanyl pills on woman while being booked into Pueblo County Jail

PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- More than 300 suspected fentanyl pills were found on a woman while she was being booked into the Pueblo County Jail.

Deputies have identified the woman as 49-year-old Brandy L. Apodaca.

Saturday night, a sheriff's patrol deputy contacted Apodaca at the Loaf 'N Jug at 1700 block of Santa Fe Drive.

According to deputies, Apodaca asked for a courtesy ride from the gas station to her home.

After the deputy conducted a routine clearance on Apodaca, the deputy learned she had an outstanding traffic warrant.

As a result, Apodaca was arrested and booked into the Pueblo County Jail.

At the jail, deputies noticed a bag of pills on the Apodaca's body. Deputies say they suspected the pills to be fentanyl. Deputies say they found 39 grams of possible fentanyl pills.

“This was a great job by the intake deputy in keeping a very close eye on this inmate while she was going through the booking process,” said Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk M. Taylor. “Her awareness and quick actions prevented a huge amount of illegal and deadly drugs from potentially entering the jail.”

Deputies took Apodaca to a nearby hospital for medical clearance due to her contact with drugs. Later, the woman returned to the Pueblo County Jail.

Deputies say Apodaca is facing charges for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, introduction of contraband and an outstanding traffic warrant.
