Colorado’s tourism industry is bouncing back from the Covid-19 pandemic

COLORADO. (KRDO) -- A recent report shows that tourism numbers are up from before the pandemic. However, the industry is still a year away from making a full recovery.

In 2021, the state logged 84.2 million tourism trips where people spent 21.9 billion dollars.

That is an increase from 2020 but is still below the 2019 numbers.

The report also showed that the number of jobs in the tourism industry has increased. The industry gained 161,000 jobs. These numbers are also below 2019.

However, the travel industry expanded by 48% in the last year since people are visiting Colorado for leisure purposes.

Areas like business, group, convention and international travel haven't seen significant growth.

Experts say that Colorado will recover 70% of the 2019 international travel spending with a full recovery predicted by 2024.
