Democratic and Republican parties encourage people to vote in November’s general election

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., (KRDO) - Wednesday afternoon, Senator Michael Bennet (D) made a campaign stop in Colorado Springs. His visit highlighted the disparity between the number of people who vote in primary elections compared to presidential elections.

During his visit to Acacia Park, Benet encouraged people to vote in the upcoming November elections.

"When people lose a sense of opportunity, they can give up on the democracy, and when people do not vote that is what it reflects," said Bennet.

Bennet emphasized he wants hard-working Coloradans to be able to live and cut down inflation.

"If we want economy that works for everybody, not just the people at the very top we need to turn out and vote to make sure that happens," said Bennet.

In El Paso County, only 28 percent of registered voters participated in the primary elections.

El Paso County Republican chairwoman Vickie Tonkins says the key to getting more people to the polls is education.

"I think the biggest key is letting minorities understand the importance of voting, I think that is the most important part, is that they understand the civic duty that we all have been afforded under the blood of many many people," added Tonkins.

This year the GOP party in El Paso county also looks to provide transportation for those who want to cast their ballots.

"As long as people contact us and let us know they need transportation we will be more than willing to help them with that," added Tonkins.

The general election is in November.
