Get Outdoors Day returns to Colorado Springs Saturday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department is teaming up with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Pikes Peak Outdoor Recreation Alliance to celebrate Get Outdoors Day.
The event has been on hiatus since the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We really missed having this opportunity to bring something to the community," said Carly Kobasiar with Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services.
The free community event encourages people to try new things and experience the great outdoors. People will be able to kayak, paddleboard, fish, ride a segway, and more.
"Colorado Springs is just an outdoor destination. We have so many great amenities for people to enjoy the outdoor, some people maybe don’t have access to," said Kobasiar.
"People always assume like 'oh you're from an outdoor state you’ve done this before,' and there’s actually a lot of kids and families who haven’t done this," said Christina Lorete with UpaDowna.
UpdaDown is a Colorado Springs non-profit.
"Our whole mission is to get folks outdoors, so all of our events are donation-based or free so we do everything from hiking, stand-up paddle boarding, and climbing," said Lorete.
Get Outdoors Day is on Saturday, June 4 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park.
The first 800 kids will receive a free fishing pole thanks to CPW.
