PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- A former Colorado State University-Pueblo student who was arrested after investigators found him in possession of a "large cache of loaded weapons" on campus will face no jail time.

On September 21, 2021, detectives with the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office arrested Robert James Killis.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by KRDO, the investigation into Killis began earlier in September after someone reported to deputies on campus that they heard about threats being made by a student.

According to the affidavit, the supervisor at his campus job told investigators that Killis made a statement in front of employees saying he liked "killing people," and had been talking about killing President Biden and making pipe bombs.

From there, investigators began surveilling Killis. When he was approached by a sergeant and searched, they found an AR-style rifle, a shotgun, and a .45 caliber handgun inside his pickup truck. The affidavit said investigators also found seven high-capacity magazines that were loaded inside a bulletproof vest, along with two more loaded magazines in his tactical belt and another eight high-capacity magazines in an ammunition box.

During the investigation, authorities noted there were roughly 1,000 rounds of ammunition and some of them appeared to be "armor-piercing ammunition."

On May 12, Killis pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Possession of a weapon on school grounds, a class six felony. He was ordered 4 years of supervised probation.
  • Possession of an illegal weapon, a class one misdemeanor. He was ordered to 5 years of supervised probation.

His probation sentence will run concurrently.

Additionally, the civil protection order with CSU-Pueblo will stay in place and a mental health evaluation was ordered. He was also ordered to forfeit his guns.
