CDC approves Pfizer COVID-19 booster for children ages 5 through 11

MGN

COLORADO (KRDO) -- Thursday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment confirmed the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approved a third dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children aged 5 through 11 years.

The CDC met earlier in the day to discuss the safety and effectiveness for children in that age range to receive a booster.

Tuesday, the US Food and Administration expanded the eligibility for the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to children 5 through 11 at least five months after they have completed their primary series of shots.

Wednesday, the El Paso County Health Department told KRDO they would move forward with providing boosters once the CDC approved the dose.

Doctor Michael Roshon with Centura Health believes parents should consider the booster shot for their children, especially if they are considered 'high risk.'
