Paralympian leads Colorado Springs elementary students on bike ride to school

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Dozens of elementary school students bicycled to school Thursday morning with a very special guest: 2022 Paralympian Tyler Carter joined in on the fun.

Columbia Elementary School students gathered at Boulder Park in Colorado Springs to meet Tyler, hear words of encouragement and wisdom, and get some fresh air before school.

"I love a healthy living. [...] You know being active, eating well," Carter said. "I think it’s really important that we work on that a young age because if you engrain that in the youth then you can really nail that later on in life."

The students were able to hear a brief speech from Tyler before taking off. He spoke about the values of goal-setting, perseverance, and accountability.

About 50 kids participated in the half-mile bike ride to school, and several parents joined in as well. The event was hosted by TrueSport and Kids on Bikes. Both organizations are aimed at helping kids get out and get exercise, setting them up for success later on in life.
