DA clears Douglas County Deputy of any wrong-doing in fatal shooting

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Douglas County Deputy is clear of any wrongdoing following a deadly shooting in early April.

On April 3, Samuel Yeager was dropped off on the side of the road after a classmate from college said he was acting irrationally while in possession of a gun.

According to the Office of the District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District, Yeager made several statements to his classmate suggesting paranoid delusions. He was dropped off at the Happy Canyon northbound exit.

When Douglas County Deputies tried confronting Yeager, he pointed a gun at them multiple times while looking down the gun's scope.

Yeager then shot at deputies three times before they eventually returned fire, killing him instantly.

The Douglas County District Attorney's Office says deputies are legally justified for shooting Yeager based on a threat to other deputies and the public's safety.
