Boulder King Soopers donates food left in store in honor of shooting victims
BOULDER, Colo. (KRDO) -- The King Soopers in Boulder that was the scene of a mass shooting is now working to donate all of the food inside the store.
Six weeks ago, a man walked into the King Soopers grocery store on Table Mesa and opened fire, killing ten people.
Since that shooting, the store has remained closed. All the groceries inside have remained untouched, until now.
"Through this tragedy, I think we all continue to look for light in the darkness," Jessica Trowbridge, King Soopers Corporate Affairs Manager, said to our Denver affiliate, 9News.
Food, cleaning supplies, vitamins, and other household items will go back to the community in the name of the lives lost.
The donations will go towards Community Food Share in Boulder. The executive director of the nonprofit says this is the biggest donation they've ever had on their hands. The donation will generate more than 10 million meals.
Trowbridge said King Soopers will load two or three trucks at a time for the next several weeks because Community Food Share can't store it all at once.
