FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KRDO) - El Paso County Health Department and Servicios de la Raza are hosting a two-day COVID-19 vaccination event in Fountain as part of the effort to minimize the ethnic disparity gap among vaccination distributions.

EPCHD hopes to administer 800 vaccines between both days to minorities 65 and older.

For instance, take Gloria Jimenez and her husband, Victor Manuel Guajaro have an underlying condition, diabetes— which is why getting the vaccine was a priority.

"I wanted to get it because I wanted to prevent getting the deadly virus, and thank God we haven't got the virus," said Gloria Jimenez.

This is all part of the Colorado Vaccine Equity TaskForce.

UCHealth will also be in collaboration with churches in the community, as AgeWell Medical Associates and Southeast Armed Services YMCA will be hosting a vaccination clinic, Saturday, Feb. 20 from 8am to 4pm at the YMCA, 2190 Jet Wing Drive. The Clinic hopes to provide up to 1,000 vaccinations, appointment only.

Pikes Peak Vista Community Health Centers will also host an equity vaccine clinic to reach communities of color at its health center at Jet Wing.

No insurance or ID is required, but an appointment is.
