DENVER, Colo. (KRDO) - As more schools shift back to remote learning, the Colorado Education Association and its affiliates have released their own COVID-19 guidelines as a template for all districts statewide.

"We need to have a clear, consistent, transparent understanding of how decisions are being made," Amie Baca-Oehlert said, President of the Colorado Education Association.

These metrics, union officials said, would provide uniform decision-making among districts for in-person, remote and hybrid learning.

"When we come back after winter break for second semester, determining thresholds for allowing students back in the building will be critical," Mike Maes said, President of the Pueblo Education Association.

The dial is separated into different levels, similarly to the state's version, based on severity.

"It reflects what’s going on in the community, which in turn reflects what’s going on in our community schools," John Robinson said, President of the Poudre Education Association.

The levels are also determined by each area's coronavirus percent positivity rate within a two week timespan.

"We’re proposing that anything above 5% should be remote. But I think once we get down below 5%, that’s when we need to start looking at what are the most vulnerable populations of students," Tiffany Choi said, President of the Denver Classroom Teachers Association

School districts are not required to use this method. But, the CEA hopes to work alongside them as well as local health leaders to implement it by January 2021.
