Fremont County inmate dies after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms

KRDO

FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Corrections says a 57-year-old inmate died Monday after experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

Authorities say the inmate was from the Fremont Correctional Facility but was transferred to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo due to his severe symptoms.

Due to medical privacy laws, the inmate's identity was not released.

The corrections facility in Fremont County has been under increased health restrictions since October due to a large outbreak. In late October, more than 300 inmates had tested positive for coronavirus.

The CDOC says is testing staff regularly and deep cleaning its facilities to reduce further spread. Inmates are also monitored for symptoms and isolated if they experience symptoms or have possibly been exposed to COVID-19.
