Two Colorado Springs area school districts announce changes to in-person learning
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Nearly two weeks into the school year, two Colorado Springs area school districts are announcing changes to their in-person learning styles.
On Tuesday, Fountain-Fort Carson School District 8 announced they are allowing secondary students to come back to class in-person sooner than expected.
"We believe we can bring secondary students back for in-person learning sooner. We will target Tuesday, September 8 for students at Fountain Middle, Carson Middle, and Fountain-Fort Carson High school to begin a hybrid schedule," a letter to parents read.
Harrison School District 2 announced changes to their in-person learning strategy as well. They quarantined a cohort of students and staff when the school year first started.
"We know we're going to have cases, that's going to happen in our schools despite how much caution we take but what we don't want is to have a spread of it," Co-superintendent, John Rogerson explained.
On August 17, middle and high school students started their year online, but come September 8, those students will have the opportunity start going to class in-person two days a week.
"This new in-person hybrid model allows D2 to split secondary students into a Tuesday/Wednesday cohort and a Thursday/Friday cohort," said D2 Superintendent Dr. Wendy Birhanzel, in a release sent Wednesday morning.
Secondary students will still have the chance to attend school remotely if they choose.
