El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responds to over 160 firework complaints during Fourth Of July
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- Fourth of July brought plenty of fireworks and plenty of complaints about fireworks.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado Springs Police Department both say they responded to hundreds of fireworks-related calls this weekend.
To give you an idea of how badly the community has been rocked by the illegal use of fireworks, the sheriff's office says they responded to 163 reports Saturday, alone.
Celebrating Independence Day with a colorful sky is normal, but firing them off when they're illegal isn't, and it seems people are getting tired of the booms because complaints are soaring.
"We cannot speculate as to why there was an increase in fireworks this year. Our deputies did provide verbal warnings in between responding to those high priority calls of service in unincorporated El Paso County," said Sgt. Deborah Mynatt with El Paso County Sheriff's Office.
In June, Colorado Springs police reported having over 350 calls, compared to the 37 calls last year.
