Dutch Bros hosts virtual 14th annual fundraiser for ALS research to honor founder

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Dutch Bros locations across Colorado Springs are raising money for the fight against ALS through their annual "Drink one for Dane" fundraiser.

According to the ALS Association, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis -- commonly known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" -- takes the life of every single person who is diagnosed with it.

"Drink one for Dane" was started after Dutch Bros founder, Dane Boersma, died from the disease back in 2009.

This year is the company's 14th year commemorating Dane's legacy by raising money for the Muscle Dystrophy Association.

Employees at their location on 21st Street in west Colorado Springs say even this pandemic couldn't break the company-wide tradition.

"We know people are going to be coming out - we have regulars that come out every year to 'Drink One for Dane' day and support ALS," says Katie Wells, Dutch Bros barista.

Customers can give back by purchasing a coffee through any Dutch Bros location drive-thru, but the fundraiser has also gone virtual.

Officials with Dutch Bros say $10 of every online-exclusive "Drink One for Dane" mug-sticker purchase will also go toward the Muscle Dystrophy Association.
