22-year-old crash victim ‘loved by many,’ say fiancé and family

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- The 22-year-old woman who was killed in a crash on Highway 24 near Calhan is being remembered by family and her fiancé as "amazing" and "loved by many."

Alexis-Athena Wyatt was the driver of a Honda Fit that was struck by an oncoming semi-trailer on Monday, according to Colorado State Patrol. Troopers say Wyatt lost control of the car on an icy road and drifted into the oncoming lane.

Justin Montney, the fiancé of Wyatt, says she was a kind person who encouraged others to be close to their family and friends. The two were engaged to be wed this May.

"She loved her family more than anything else," he said.

Montney says Wyatt graduated from Fort Hays State University in Kansas. She earned a degree in English and wanted to be a teacher that would "change the lives of her students."

The couple met in college, but he didn't really get to know her until a Christian bible study retreat.

"She was strong in her faith and loved God and Jesus," Montney said. "She was just kind and gentle and really amazing."

The family of Wyatt has a GoFundMe to help alleviate the costs of Wyatt's funeral. KRDO will be speaking to the father tonight.
