Syracuse student from Colorado returns home early amidst racist acts
Students at Syracuse University have been holding protests, sit-ins and walk-outs after a slew of racist, anti-Semitic and white supremacist displays have been seen across campus.
Many of them are up in arms against the administration. Students say the school isn't doing enough to combat this problem.
"There's been a lot of hate speech towards students. Particularly those of color," said Syracuse senior Tyler Smith. "There's been swastikas drawn in the snow, there's been the N-word written all over the dorm, there's been pretty much everything you could imagine."
An email was sent out claiming that the Syracuse Police Department had made an arrest after a series of new graffiti markings were discovered on campus.
"Students are outraged. They're not getting the answers that they need or the protection that they need. It's terrifying," Smith said.
Smith is from Colorado, and came home for Thanksgiving break early amidst the events happening on her campus.
The chancellor of the university signed a memorandum Wednesday night, agreeing to punish those involved and create a curriculum that addresses diversity and issues in the 21st century.
