SOLEDAD, CA (KSBW) — Soledad Police police chief Eric Sills is hanging up his gun and badge after more than 37 years of service in law enforcement.
Sills spent nearly a decade on the central coast and 28 years in San Jose in various capacities.
Sills said he originally planned on doing only five years as Soledad’s top cop when he first took the job.
“I fell in love with the city, the community, the people I got to work with. I really enjoyed that,” Sills said of the tight-knit Soledad community after accepting two community awards at Wednesday’s city council meeting. “I didn’t have that in my 28 years in San Jose.”
It’s a team Sills calls a family. He says he’s leaving that family to spend more time with his other family.
Deputy Chief Damien Wasson will take over as interim chief until a replacement is found.
