Attempted child abduction in Jefferson County

Deputies responded to the 8600 block of West Progress Place in Littleton for a report of a possible attempted abduction of a 9-year-old at approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday, according to a release Sunday from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The alleged would-be abductor is described as a Hispanic male, 40 to 45 years of age, dark hair, and wearing a blue polo style shirt.

A neighbor’s surveillance camera was able to record part of the interaction.

The father of the 9-year-old witnessed a white work van stop and approach some juveniles on the street in front of some houses.

The 9-year-old said the male driver mumbled something and then said, “Get in.” The juvenile asked the driver to repeat himself, and the driver responded, “Get in the van.” The juveniles did not get in the van and the driver drove away.

The van has a 6-inch “Pepsi-like” logo sticker with unknown wording on it. The vehicle appears to be a white new Ford cargo van with a black trim piece running the length of the driver’s side. The van has at least one yellow ladder and a moderately sized dent in the driver’s side rear bumper. The front driver’s side hubcap appears to be missing.

If you know who the driver might be, or have any information related to this incident, please call the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612, or the Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913- STOP (7867).
